Microbial Probiotic for Pond Remediation & Environmental Stabilization

POWER PACK or POWER PACK Plus can be used directly into the larval tank or growout shrimp pond; however, for optimal results it should be “brewed” using clean pond water and aeration for 8–24 hours along with a carbon source, such as brown sugar, before application to the tank or pond.

POWER PACK Mode of Action & Benefits:

Heterotrophic bacteria that comprises POWER PACK include Bacillus subtilis, B. megaterium, B. polyxma, and B. licheniformis. These Bacilli strains all excrete enzymes such as Protease, Cellulase, Xylanase, among others that rapidly decompose insoluble organic matter from leftover feed, shrimp waste, and dead algae... ultimately into CO₂. This blend reduces toxic gases and foul odors, such as NH₃ and H₂S, to improve water quality by converting NH₄ → NO₂, and oxidizing S and H₂S into SO₄, and NO₃ → N2↑, and then finally transforming S and H2S → NO4 and NO3 → N2↑ ... all to create a clean shrimp pond environment!

  • The outstanding feature of POWER PACK and POWER PACK Plus when compared to most other pond probiotics is that after aeration, the total amount of beneficial bacterial biomass grows from 4.5 billion CFU/gram to almost 5 trillion CFU/gram, providing much greater effectiveness in excluding Vibrio spp!

  • Based on the principle of “competitive exclusion”, POWER PACK/ POWER PACK Plus utilizes only the fastest replicating beneficial Bacilli. These scientifically selected Bacilli are able to “out replicate” the growth of pathogenic Vibrio spp. bacteria, the primary cause of disease. Thus, shrimp can avoid these pathogens to stay healthy, consume feed and achieve higher survival rates.

  • POWER PACK/ POWER PACK Plus utilizes BCM's proprietary spore fermentation process, ensuring greater stability and uniformity of it’s Bacillus bacteria under hot and humid conditions making them highly suitable for tropical Southeast Asian climates.

  • POWER PACK/POWER PACK Plus is highly effective for intensively stocked Vannamei and Monodon shrimp when the proper dose is applied. For semi-intensive farming with lower stocking densities, lower dosages should be used.

  • Brewing Instructions: As Bacilli are heterotrophic bacteria, the addition of a carbon souce when brewing will incite faster spore replication. This increases the blend of beneficial spores’ effectiveness in “competitively excluding” pathogenic bacteria in an aqueous environment. Mix 200g of POWER PACK/ POWER PACK Plus in a bucket containing 20 liters of clean water and 1-3kg of inexpensive brown sugar then stir well. Aerate for 8–24 hours for best microbial replication results. Then distribute the mixed blend evenly across the shrimp of fish larval tank, or the shrimp growout pond, paying special attention to areas furthest from the paddle wheels with the least amount dissolved oxygen.

Dosage for POWER PACK when used shrimp larvae hatcheries: use from 3-5ppt of brewed POWER PACK.

Dosage for POWER PACK Plus when used for shrimp growout ponds. From the first month on: use 200g/1,000m² every 3 days. With more intensively stocked ponds consuming more shrimp feed, use 400g/1,000m² every 3-5 days. For shrimp ponds in epidemic-prone areas to thoroughly eliminate and prevent disease, use 400g/1,000m² daily.

    stability °C
    Bacillus Subtilis Bacillus Subtilis 10-50 billion CFU/g 6.0-9.0 20-50
    Bacillus Lichenformis Bacillus lichenformis 10-50 billionCFU/g 6.0-9.0 20-50
    Bacillus Pumilus Bacillus Pumilus 10-50 billion CFU/g 6.0-9.0 20-50

For aquaculture pond treatment, mix with soluble sugar carrier (i.e. Maltodextrin, Anhydrous Dextrin, Lactose, etc...) at a ratio of 10% Bacillus spp. in the finished product. (If BCM Bacillus spp. 10 billion CFU/g is used, a 10% finished product will = 1 billion CFU/g; if 25% is used = 2.5 billion CFU/g). To make a “concentrated” finished product, it is recommended to mix a ratio of 33-50% Bacillus spp. with 67-50% soluble carrier.

    The Challenge: Feed Ingredient Variability

Aqua feeds use more than just marine proteins and oils high in omega-3 fatty acids, but more often now use many highly phytogenic algae and plant materials that have naturally present xylans, hemicelluloses and other inhibitors such as starch amylose from glutens that may make feed particles less “bio-available”. This may reduce the overall performance of a shrimp or fish diet.

    The Solution:

  • A blend of concentrated, active enzymes such as acid Protease, fungal Protease, Amyloglucosidase, Cellulase, fungal Amylase, Papain.

  • 100% water soluble NaCl-based carrier.

  • How is SwineZyme used?

SwineZyme was originally developed for livestock as a way to hydrolyze non-polysaccharides found in many feed ingredients that dramatically inhibit nutrient metabolism. SwineZyme’s benefits are multiple:

  • (1) Maximizes the metabolism of carbohydrates into energy required for today’s intensive commercial aqua production. When feed enzymes are added to pellet or extruded feeds, due to high extrusion or pelleting temperatures these enzymes are destroyed. This is why it may be most effective to use “fresh” enzyme blends directly mixed with shrimp feed for on-site farm application.

  • (2) Reduces the amount of non-starch polysaccharides as a result of higher metabolic activity with non-starch carbohydrates. When non-starch carbohydrates are not properly metabolized you can expect an increase in the amount of “non-starch polysaccharides”. NSP’s increase internal secretion of water, proteins, electrolytes, and lipids within the GI tract which in turn, increases the overall gut viscosity. When this occurs, there will be far less effective contact of passing substrates with naturally occurring digestive enzymes. This results in decreased nutrient up-take. The prevalence of non-starch polysaccharides not only impairs Amino Acid up-take and bio-availability, but worse, does nothing to rid the gut lining of anti-nutritional factors (ANF) such as lectins, tannins, trypsin enzyme inhibitors and even indigestible plant (phytate) residues. When these ANF’s remain along the gut lining, essential nutrients are trapped.

  • (3) Stimulates the immune system by increasing metabolism making balanced nutrition optimally bio-available. The increased use of lower nutritional grains, such as soybean, in feeds has been proven to weaken immune systems in aquaculture. With weaker immunity, shrimp and fish become more susceptible to environmental stress which may lead to communicable disease common to intensive culture. Consistently balanced nutrition made optimally bio-available is seen to be the key in preventative culture practices that is cost-effective and avoids the use of antibiotics!

  • (4) Adds necessary digestive enzymes to immature shrimp where production of naturally occurring enzymes, such as protease, amylase, and lipase activity, in the gastro-intestinal tract has yet to develop. This deficiency can be supplemented in order to encourage growth of the young shrimp or fish’s gut biome.

  • Is Lactobacillus spp. effective?
Various strains of Lactobacillus are commonly used as digestive probiotics. However, because these strains are not true endospores, they cannot survive hot temperatures warmer than 20oC. Tropical countries average much hotter temperatures +30oC in which Lactobacillus bacteria cannot survive, rendering the probiotic useless . . .
